Detoxing for Stress

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

When talking about detox we usually only refer to environmental issues and their impact on building up toxins in our body. It is not too common for stress to be mentioned as a good reason to detox. The fact is though stress is a toxin just like any chemical that you may absorb or ingest. It can be a cause of many health problems and, as such, should be eliminated from your body as much as possible.

The harmful effects caused by stress include liver and kidney damage, cardio problems and rising blood pressure. Left untreated each of these can lead to serious health problems and, in some case, can be fatal. As with any other detox, the best way to treat stress is to detox your environment.

As well as taking regular holidays and breaks – both in the short and long term – a great way to stress detox is through breathing exercises. Breathing is something we all do all of the time yet so many of us actually do it efficiently. Taking a few minutes each day for some deep breathing is good for your health and will help you feel relaxed. It has a large impact on your internal organs too – increasing oxygen intake and, by default, increasing the amount of carbon dioxide you can expel. Who would have thought such a fundamental part of your day could be so important.

If you’re feeling stressed don’t ignore it. Just like any toxin stress can lead to health problems and increased illness. Don’t underestimate the effect of taking 2-3 ten minute breaks each day just for a little deep breathing. It will help you relax and will improve the efficiency of your body in cleaning your system. Detox is not just about what you eat and drink.

How to Detox Effectively

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Detox is a universal word used to describe the process of detoxifying the body, removing harmful chemicals that prevent our body’s from working efficiently. Although in general terms it is about removing toxins and waste from our system, the term detox itself means different things to different people. For some it might be a two week off the booze, for others the regimen is a lot stricter. So what makes an effective detox?

To make the most of any detox it is of course important to reduce the work that your body has to undertake. By reducing the amount of junk going in you can allow your body to work on healing itself faster. The most obvious way to do this is to eliminate unhealthy food and drink from your diet – alcohol, coffee, cigarettes, sugars and saturated fats should all go on the back burner.

For a more effective detox the process of elimination should be taken a step further. You can remove the use of any chemical based cleaners and toiletries as our body absorbs their toxins through touch. Air fresheners should also be removed as they have toxins which you inhale through your nose – natural alternatives are preferred.

Once you are prepared for the elimination process your detox is ready to get into full swing. You can supercharge this by eating plenty of fresh fruit and veg and drinking lots of water. A good detox remedy will also aid in providing your body with the nutrients it needs to eliminate waste faster. Very quickly your body will begin to heal itself and the build up of toxins will be removed. You will feel healthier, more alert and have more energy. You will also be less vulnerable to illness as your immune system will be stronger. Detox can mean lots of things to lots of people but, when done correctly, your body will reward you for it.
