Anyone who has been on the lookout for health products would have heard about the various properties of acai berry juice. The juice is extracted from the acai berry, a berry that is found in the palm trees of the Amazon in Brazil. This wonder fruit has been consumed by the Brazilians for many years and it is only recently that it has been brought to the forefront so that everyone can benefit from the super food’s characteristics. The super food is known by many to help weight loss and has various other properties as well. It is available over the Internet and all that you need to do is to type in acai in a search engine to obtain various websites where you can buy acai berry juice.
The Importance of Buying Good Quality Acai Berry Juice The acai berry needs to be extracted well so as to retain all the beneficial properties that it has. The berry itself is known to rot within a day and therefore it is important that the plant be grown near the manufacturing unit or the manufacturing unit be placed close to the place where the acai berry grows naturally. It is therefore pertinent that you choose the acai juice that you consume after adequate levels of research and reference.
Weight Loss Properties This is one property of acai berry that needs no mention. Anyone who knows about the blue coloured berry seems to know about the fact that it is essentially very good for weight loss. The weight loss properties of the berry or the acai berry have been popularized in Oprah Winfrey’s show as well and it is said that she along with other Hollywood stars have benefitted from the acai berry juice diet and have achieved their weight loss targets. Acai works in a completely natural manner and increases the metabolism of the body. This means that the weight loss that results from consuming acai berry is completely natural.
Other Health Benefits of Acai Berry Apart from the weight loss characteristics that acai berry has, there are also many other benefits of consuming this super food. The berry and the juice extracted from the same contain high levels of nutrients that are required by the body. It is high in antioxidants and therefore helps in preventing cancerous growths.
It also contains fibre, amino acids, magnesium, calcium, potassium, iron, vitamin A, E and C. These contribute to increasing the immunity levels of the body and keep diseases at bay. Unique nutrients like oleic acid or omega 9 helps in lowering cholesterol and since it is low on sugar, it is a great fruit for diabetics as well. The Cyanidin 3 Glucoside is known to reverse the process of aging and can help you look better with each passing day.
Acai berry, when consumed regularly can help in improving your complexion and skin tone, aiding digestion, managing insomnia and depression and removing toxins from your system as well. This ensures that your body remains healthy and fit at all times.

OK so if you’re a fan of health supplements then there’s no doubt you will have come across the acai berry, and more recently perhaps the ‘even more powerful’ maqui berry. Both of these supplements have had a lot of attention in recent times and are very popular due to the potent anti-oxidant properties they possess. The only problem with these berries is they don’t travel well so, generally, the only available method to consume them is via supplements. But what about the folk who want to eat anti-oxidants in their daily foods?
One of the foods that contain the highest number of antioxidants can be found in blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. They are full of fibre, minerals, vitamins and loaded with healing antioxidants, namely pranthocyanidins. Strawberries, raspberries and blackberries also contain ellagic acid, a compound that contains carcinogens. Blueberries also appear to delay the onset of age-related loss in cognitive function.
Broccoli is another vegetable loaded with antioxidants. It is one of the cruciferous vegetables, such as cabbage, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts, that may help to prevent cancer and ward off heart disease. These vegetables contain indole-3-carbinol, a potent antioxidant that breaks down estrogen in the body and reduces the risk of breast cancer, ovarian and cervical cancers. Broccoli also contains beta-carotene which helps to prevent heart disease.
Tomatoes have also made the news media in the past several years, and for good reason. Science has found that they contain chemicals, including lycopene, which wards off certain types of cancer and prevents macular degeneration and cataracts. Lycopene is a relatively rare member of the carotenoid family and is twice as powerful as beta-carotene. Some studies suggest that lycopene can help to prevent lung, colon and breast cancer. Tomatoes contain the antioxidant glutathione which helps to boost immune system function.
Dried beans are another good source of anti-oxidants as are granny smith apples, pecans and cherries. 10 years ago scientists discovered that an anti-oxidant in red wine may keep your heart beating longer and stronger. This led to an increase in advertising dollars by the wine industry. The substances they found were in red grapes that helped to boost heart health by acting as a free radical scavenger. The actual chemical found was resveratrol, now manufactured in the laboratory and sold as a supplement.
Garlic is a medicinal herb which has been used for centuries in a variety of ways, including as an antibiotic. Garlic is packed with antioxidants and sulfur compounds thought to be responsible for its healing benefits. Garlic is known to lower cholesterol levels, reduce blood pressure and has anti-clotting properties.
Carrots have long been touted as the vegetable of choice in order to save someone’s eye sight. This is due to the beta-carotene, also found in beets, sweet potatoes and other orange vegetables which have been found to help prevent macular degeneration. Research also points to the protection that beta-carotene provides against cancer, heart disease and the progression of arthritis.
You may not like it but spinach is a nutritional jackpot. The antioxidant found in spinach is Lutein and is the main pigment located in the macula of the eye. It is believed people who eat spinach are less likely to develop cataracts. Lutein also works by shielding the retina from sun damage and can help prevent heart disease.
These are only a few of the foods, fruits and vegetables, raw nuts and seeds, that contain antioxidants necessary to fight free radical damage in our bodies. By getting enough fruits and vegetables on a daily basis we help our bodies to fight the damage done by free radicals produced in our bodies, and also acquired through toxins and waste products in the environment. We acquire free radicals through strenuous exercise, breathing and pollution, smoking and alcohol intake just to name a few.
Researchers now know that antioxidants are able to provide a level of protection and prevention against illnesses and diseases long thought to be a part of the aging process. By incorporating only a few things into our diet we are able to positively impact the long term effects of our health.

As with other super fruits or superfoods, proponents of mangosteen juice and mangosteen capsules believe that it may cure everything from cancer to bacterial infections. Users also say that it can decrease the pain and inflammation caused from arthritis. There are over 100 different types of arthritic conditions but the majority of individuals refer to rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis as the two major groups.
Mangosteen is rich in vitamins and minerals including vitamin B-1, B-2, B6, calcium, potassium and iron. It is also packed with antioxidants that assist in fighting free radicals in the body linked to heart disease and cancer, as well as being a good source of xanthones. Researchers have found that xanthones have a potent anti-inflammatory effect in the body which may be linked to the positive effects found arthritis pain relief.
While there have been no major studies on humans to prove that drinking the mangosteen juice on a daily basis would offer significant improvement, researchers have found that it’s daily dosages of antioxidants and vitamins will improve the ability of the body’s immune system to fight the disease. Such properties also improve the body’s ability to absorb other vitamins and minerals essential to to overall health.
Mangosteen offers the user an incredibly powerful antioxidant fruit cocktail which helps the body to remain healthy. And, while there have been no major studies on humans to prove the effects of mangosteen juice in the treatment of arthritis, there have been significant case studies that point researchers to the possibility of improved overall health and decreased pain and inflammation.

Poor eating habits, low-fiber diets, environmental pollution, and stress causes the production and absorption of several toxins into the body. These toxins affect adversely the functioning of all the major organs of our body and especially the fine balance of our immune system. Detoxing one’s body is now more of a necessity than a choice.
Fortunately there are many techniques and health supplements which can help you detox so that your body becomes significantly healthier and revitalized.
- Consumption of adequate amounts of water, herbal teas, fruits, vegetables and other fibre rich foods.
- Rreducing consumption of fats, red meats, and milk products are natural ways of detoxifying. Fibres in the diet ease absorption and promote utilization of the dietary nutrients.
- Sweating is a very effective way to detox. Sauna and simple aerobics increase our metabolisms, increase sweating and thereby help purify the body through enhanced skin elimination. Regular bathing is essential to cleanse the skin of the toxins it has released and to open the pores to eliminate more.
- Though tea contains potentially harmful elements such as tannin and caffeine, it is also a diuretic (a compound that increases urine production). This helps the body to washout several toxins. Tea is also a powerful antioxidant, which means that it protects the body from the harmful action of free radicals.
- Herbal medicines like a home brew made of cumin, coriander and fennel, strained and taken with or without honey, can be an excellent detoxification beverage.
- Commercially available detox teas include lemongrass, red clover, calendula, rosehips, juniper and chamomile. Taken in various combinations and blends, these can be helpful in preventing oxygen free radical build-ups in our body.
There are ways to evaluate the efficacy of your detox regimen. A successfully incorporated detox will pump in fresh energy levels; renew appetite, and provide relief from chronic lethargy, aches and pains. Enjoy the holiday season but think about how to cleanse your body afterwards,

- ‘Detox‘ is the short form of detoxification and involves the removing of toxic substances from your body. Learning how to detox your body can bring substantial benefits to your health and well being by boosting your immune system. There are natural ways we can strengthen our immune system. Some of these ways are listed here:
- Make sure you catch your daily dose of sleep, to rejuvenate and boost your immune system. Many convince themselves that sleeping 5 to 6 hrs a day is enough. But the truth is, we require at least 8 hours of un-fragmented sleep per night.
- Stress raises the levels of steroid hormones in your body. Steroids have a very strong suppressive action on the normal functioning of your immune cells. There are studies that prove that stress and depression affect the body physically and can even weaken the immune system. De-stressing sessions like meditation, aerobics and yoga help a lot. Listening to relaxing music and just doing what you love to do are also help some to unwind.
- Water helps to flush the body of toxins and keep you well hydrated. Drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water a day improves with healing & toxin removal processes.
- Nothing is as important as a well balanced diet to sustain a powerful immune system. Vitamins and trace nutrients play very intricate roles in the metabolism of rapidly diving cells like the cells of immunity. A diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables, are excellent sources of antioxidants. Vitamins like A, C, E, and beta carotene are the major antioxidants performing the important role of scavenging free radicals and limiting their damage. Antioxidants also improve immune system functioning.
- Finally, regular exercise makes our body stronger, improves circulation of blood and nutrients, and helps flush the body of toxins; thus indirectly contributing to a healthy immune system.

Vitamin A is most famous for its topical uses in skin care. It is the basis for the retinoid treatments which are used to prevent and treat acne as well as anti-aging process for the skin. Vitamin A is a group of compounds that plays an important role in skin, bone growth, reproduction, cell division and cell differentiation within the body. It helps to regulate the immune system which is the part of the body that helps to prevent or fight off infections. It also might help lymphocytes to fight infection more effectively.
Deficiencies are usually rare in developed countries and since it’s a fat-soluble vitamin individuals can develop dangerous levels if taken in large doses over time. Using a supplement of vitamin A is especially risky for women who are pregnant because of the risks to the developing baby.
Researchers and dietary experts understand how critical vitamin A is for good health which is why many breakfast cereals and low-fat milk is fortified with it. However, taken in large doses over time it may actually weaken women’s bones and increase the risk of fractures as revealed by a Harvard study. In this study of 70,000 postmenopausal nurses researchers found that the women who consume the most vitamin A from foods or supplements had nearly double the risk of fractures compared with those who consumed the least. A Swedish study which took place in 1998 backed up these findings although no other study has since found such a risk.
Excellent food sources for vitamin A include fruits, carrots, green and yellow vegetables, dairy products, Lamb and fish liver oils. Physicians have used it in external topical preparations to treat acne, eczema and psoriasis because it is encourages a more rapid cell turnover of the outer layer of skin. Doctors also use it to help treat eye disorders, respiratory diseases and gastric altars as well is to help prevent the development of cancer.
It is extremely unlikely that if an individual consumes any type of fortified foods or takes in enough fruits and vegetables that they will need a to supplement their diet with vitamin A in order to prevent deficiency. Be sure to read the bottle of any multivitamin that you are considering using in order to ensure that it does not contain too much of a specific vitamin which is already in abundance in your daily diet.

The Maqui is still a relative amateur in the superfruit world and is not well known in the UK, with very few retailers offering it. However with the health properties contained within maqui berry (being up to three times more potent in anti-oxidant value than the superlative Acai) it will not be long before this changes. Maqui berry is a purple coloured fruit found in the Patagonia region of South America, mainly in Chile. Although this berry has had many medicinal uses among Mapuche Indians for centuries, it actually only started appearing as a health supplement within the last year or two. As you will see this is one superfood that you should consider utilising. Lets see what gives the Maqui the edge over most other berries out there:
1. Maqui contains a much higher amount of antioxidants than any other superfood – including acai. This means that our body is better protected from toxins, chemicals and free radicals that cause us harm.
2. Maqui is a new kid on the block in terms of weight loss but is now available to help us overcome any weight control problems. In a recent six month study at the University of Austin in Texas Maqui Berry was found to be 400% more effective than Acai for weight loss, with 92% actually managing to keep the weight off in a check up 6 months later. The fact that the berry is loaded with antioxidants is one of the reasons it often contributes to weight loss. Ridding our body of toxins and allowing us to become healthier, increase metabolism and shed the excess.
3. Additionally, the maqui berry is very high in anthocyanins and polyphenols levels. According to research, Maqui berry has 10 times more polyphenols and 100 times more anthocyanins than red wine. This makes the berry extremely high in nutritional value while it is also a great source of vitamin c, calcium, potassium, and iron.
4. Maqui berry can help boost our immune system and promotes healthy aging. This also means the berry is excellent for preventing disease, illness and even reducing cancer risks.
5. Maqui berry is a natural COX-2-inhibitor and it has anti-inflammatory properties. These anti-inflammatory side effects can help the bones and joints of the body, especially for anyone with arthritis.
6. Maqui can fight against aging and keep us looking younger through it’s skin care properties. It promotes energy level increase so we can fit more into our days, stay healthy and live longer.
Although on the face of it this may seem like a supplement to replace Acai, on the contrary it is a supplement that can work brilliantly alongside Acai. Although the Maqui is more potent in a lot of areas the acai does have its own strengths – such as higher omega content for example. It’s not necessarily a straight choice between them but Maqui is definitely something you should look to introduce into your lifestyle. When it came off the production line at Troo Health Care the first order was my own!

Over recent years more and wider reaching studies have been made into the relationship between what we consume and the speed at which we age. This more specifically relates to the types of food groups and their impact on anti aging and wrinkles. Such research has meant that old sayings – such as ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’, ‘you are what you eat’, or ‘eat your greens’ – were way beyond their years. Many of you will probably of heard of the term ‘free radicals’ which attack our body. Consuming the right foods gives your body the right weaponry to fight back.
Researchers have a theory that free radicals exist within the body which destroy cells and DNA replication causing disease, illness and cancer. Doctors and researchers believe that anti-oxidants, other proteins molecules, will combat the effects of free radicals in your body. This, in turn, has led physicians to theorize that antioxidants will reduce oxidative stress and decrease dysregulation of cells function as well as aging. All of these factors combined lead physicians to think that antioxidants positively affect the aging process. In other words, if you eat your fruits and vegetables you prevent premature aging and delay natural aging.
It’s important to have an understanding of how antioxidants are used in the body to delay the aging process. The body constantly has to cope with oxidative stress which causes a rustic effects in the cells. A good analogy of this is cutting open an apple and leaving it on the counter. When you go back to the Apple later it has turned brown; oxidative stress. Researchers approximate that your body’s cells take up to 10,000 hits a day from environmental elements and stress.
These environmental stress factors can damage DNA, tissues, vital organs and muscles because they are unstable molecules that bond with other molecules and destroy the bonded molecule. This damage can lead to the development of degenerative diseases such as cancer, heart disease and premature aging. Antioxidants are the hero’s in this situation as they bind with the free radicals to fight cellular damage.
In this ongoing fight to slow down the aging process many people have turned to external creams, serums, pills and ointments in order to prevent the physical signs of aging. One of those physical signs that is significant is wrinkles. One of the latest anti-aging remedies on the market is resveratrol, believed to be a strong antioxidant. It is sourced from a plant and can also be found a number of foods including peanuts, blueberries, sparkle berries, cranberries and bilberry’s. However, it is most identifiable within grapes, especially in the skin.
This is good news for red wine lovers as most red wine contains large amounts of resveratrol. Some of the newer supplements on the market contain a more potent concentration which would mean a person would have to drink 1000 bottles of wine each day in order to intake the same amount as in supplement form.
